Palmy to get the coolest slide in New Zealand

It’s time to sharpen your skates and get your winter woolies ready, the outdoor ice rink is returning to Palmerston North this June.
Once again The Square will be transformed into a winter wonderland with the arrival of the outdoor ice rink along with the newest attraction to the Ice World New Zealand family, the ice fun slide.
Experience the thrill of riding in a toboggan on the exhilarating 25m journey down the slide. The ice slide is built on a tried and tested system and has proven to be a spectacular attraction at winter festivals and events around the world. Palmerston North this year will be the first time the ice slide has been set up in New Zealand.

Since 2012 Ice World New Zealand have run two ice rinks in Palmerston’s North Square and it has proven to be a popular attraction for the community. It draws many people in to the CBD of Palmerston North and provides an enjoyable activity for all ages throughout the school holidays.
“We are pleased to be able to bring the ice rink back to Palmerston North” says Craig Douglas, Ice World New Zealand Director. “The ice slide will add an extra element of entertainment and we are expecting it will draw in a big crowd”.
The ice rink and slide presence in Palmerston North is thanks to the partnership between Ice World and Destination Manawatu. Lance Bickford, Chief Executive of Destination Manawatu is very positive on the impact of the ice icons. “Previously the ice rink has added a real sense of excitement to The Square, during a time when we usually have fewer events. This is a great way to further expand that vibrancy again for both locals and our many visitors.”

Visitors to the ice rink can expect to be transported to a world of snow and ice with the winter wonderland themed environment with fairy lights, mood lighting, a snow machines, music and more.
The ice rink and ice slide will run over four weeks from the 19th June to the 19th July and will be open 9am to 9pm daily for public skating and group booking sessions. Prices start from $15 for children and $20 for adults.
